HMD has introduced the HMD Fusion, the company’s latest smartphone, at the IFA 2024. This has a modular design with a six-pin connector on the back to enable new kinds of cases that add to the phone’s functionality, just like the moto mods. HMD is calling it ‘Smart Outfits’.
Each outfit instantly alters the hardware and software of the phone, unlocking new capabilities, unique interfaces and enhanced performance, says the company.
Flashy Outfit
This adds a built-in ring light for both front and rear cameras, offering customizable lighting and camera effects via the camera app
Rugged Outfit
The case is built for added protection for outdoor adventures, adding IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance. This also brings wireless charging support with magnets and an in-case-of-emergency (ICE) button.
Casual Outfit
The case offers industrial-chic design, this outfit offers minimal protection while maintaining the sleek look. There are coloured Casual Outfits to choose from.
HMD already introduced Fuison Kit, simple to use, open-source software and hardware developer kit. The company says at least one third party is committed to making their own Outfit for vertical solutions.
Similar to the HMD Skyline, this has Gen2 repairability with easy display, back cover, battery and charging port repairs through iFixit.

Pricing and availability
The HMD Fusion comes in single Black colour, is priced at 249 Euros (USD 276 / Rs. 23,225 approx.) / 199 GBP (USD 262 / Rs. 22,010 approx.) and will roll out soon. Flashy, Rugged, Wireless and Gaming Outfits will be available later this year priced between 39 Euros and 99 Euros.
