Apple could skip Watch Ultra 3 and launch updated Watch Ultra 2, AirPods Max, AirPods 4 today

Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 16 series today at its ‘It’s Glowtime’ event. Ahead of the launch, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared some final predictions, including updates on the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and AirPods Max.

Apple Watch Series 10 and Watch Ultra 2 Updates

According to Gurman, Apple will not be releasing a third-generation Apple Watch Ultra, known as the Apple Watch Ultra 3, at today’s event. Instead, the company plans to update the Apple Watch Ultra 2 by introducing a new black titanium casing option. This black variant was initially expected last year but never materialized.

The decision not to release a new Apple Watch Ultra raises questions about whether the Ultra model will support new health features, such as sleep apnea detection, which is expected to debut with the Apple Watch Series 10.

Gurman also mentioned a potential delay for the new Apple Watch SE, which may feature a plastic housing instead of the current aluminum design.

He emphasized that the Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to be the primary focus, featuring sleep apnea detection, larger displays, slimmer bezels, and noting that blood pressure monitoring has been delayed and will not be available this year.

New AirPods Max

In a separate update, Gurman shared that the new AirPods Max will feature improved noise cancellation, adaptive audio, and a switch to USB-C. This update was unexpected, as earlier reports suggested no new AirPods Max models would be launched at the iPhone keynote.

However, it now appears the updated AirPods Max will be introduced, offering enhanced audio performance through better active noise cancellation and adaptive audio features, while transitioning from Lightning to USB-C.

There have been hints that the updated AirPods Max might also come in new color options, though no significant changes to the design are expected.

Two new AirPods 4 models

Alongside the AirPods Max, a more substantial update for the standard AirPods is expected, with two new AirPods 4 models rumored, including one with active noise cancellation.

The new models will blend design elements from the third-generation AirPods and the Pro model, both featuring shorter stems. The higher-end version will include noise cancellation and an updated charging case with speakers for Find My alerts, similar to the current AirPods Pro.

Both new models will offer an improved fit, but neither is expected to include replaceable tips like the AirPods Pro. They will also switch to USB-C for charging, in line with Apple’s recent shift away from Lightning, complying with European Union regulations.

iPhone 16 ‘It’s Glowtime’ Event

All these updates and rumors will be confirmed once the event begins later today. The in-person event will kick off at 10 AM PT (10:30 IST) today and will also be streamed live from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park.
