Canon has announced the EOS C80 digital cinema camera, designed for high mobility and versatility. The camera features a compact, lightweight design, a 6K full-frame sensor, and a range of advanced interfaces.
Building on the mobility of the EOS C70, released in November 2020, the EOS C80 includes an RF mount for a shallow depth of field, producing high-quality visuals with pleasing bokeh.
The 6K full-frame sensor, also found in the EOS C400, is supported by an SDI interface, crucial for various video productions, from movies to live broadcasts. It can handle developed metadata for virtual production as well.
The EOS C80 combines a 6K full-frame, back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor with the DIGIC DV 7 image processor, minimizing rolling shutter effects and allowing for high-quality 4K video recording via 6K/30P internal RAW recording and 6K oversampling.
It supports three levels of Base ISO to adapt to different lighting conditions and offers recording at up to 4K/120P and 2K/180P for slow-motion footage.
Notable features include:
- Compact and Lightweight Design: Ideal for use with drones, gimbals, and tripods.
- Ergonomic Handling: New lightweight handle and easy-to-use joystick controller for navigation.
- Dual Output: Simultaneous SDI/HDMI output for external devices.
- Video Data Forwarding: Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet port for IP streaming and remote-control operation.
- Accessory Compatibility: Multi-function shoe for connecting various accessories, providing high-speed communication and power supply.
- Enhanced Autofocus: EOS iTR AF X algorithm and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for precise and fast focusing.
- Bright LCD Panel: Improved visibility for outdoor shooting.
- User-Friendly Joystick: Designed for quick, accurate menu navigation.
Recording options include Cinema RAW Light at 6K 30P and XF-AVC codec for 10-bit 4:2:2 with oversampling. The camera also supports XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S codecs, maintaining easy management and metadata preservation.
