Sony Xperia 5 VI is not launching in 2024

Sony usually releases two top-end phones in a year, one in the Xperia 1 series and the other model in the Xperia 5 series and a phone in the mid-range Xperia 10 series.

The company introduced the Xperia 1 VI back in May, and when everyone expected the company to introduce the Xperia 5 VI at the IFA last week, the company has now revealed that it is skipping the Xperia 5 series this year.

This was revealed by at a press conference in Japan earlier this week attended by Masao Mizuno, general manager of the Mobile Business Department of Sony Marketing’s Mobile Business Division, and Shinji Yuhara, general manager.

Sony said that it plans to continue selling the Xperia 5 V this year as well, and added that there is an increase in users switching from older Xperia 5 series to the Xperia 1 VI. The company is still selling the Xperia 5 IV in Japan after 2 years of launch.

The company moved from a 4K 21:9 screen in the Xperia 1 V to a FHD+ 19.5:9 aspect ratio screen in the Xperia 1 VI this year. The 4K screen was one of the most differentiating factors in the Xperia 1 series compared to Xperia 5 series.

We will have to wait to know when we can expect the Xperia 5 VI in 2025.
