The Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024 started with a record-breaking opening for both sellers and brand partners on Amazon.in, delivering smiles to millions of customers nationwide.
In the first 48 hours alone, the festival saw nearly 11 crore customer visits, with over 8,000 sellers surpassing Rs. 1 lakh in sales. This marks the best-ever opening in the event’s history.
New Product Launches & Savings
The event showcased over 25,000 new product launches across categories like smartphones, laptops, TVs, fashion, home décor, appliances, and groceries.
According to the company, customers benefited from exclusive offers through SBI Debit and Credit cards, leading to savings of Rs. 240 crore within the first two days.
Amazon Prime Members
Amazon noted a historic increase in Prime member participation during the first 24 hours of Prime Early Access (PEA), with 140% more members shopping compared to an average day. Prime members made 8x more purchases during PEA, with over 3 lakh unique products delivered within the same day or the next.
Demand from Tier 2 and Tier 3 Cities
The festival saw robust demand from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, particularly in categories like smartphones, appliances, fashion, and furniture. Popular brands like Apple, Samsung, LG, and Daikin were in high demand.
According to the company, 1 in 3 customers utilized SBI Bank EMI offers, and there was a 40% growth in No Cost EMI transactions, with 90% of EMI purchases focused on mobiles, TVs, and appliances.
Small & Medium Businesses (SMBs)
SMBs, including women entrepreneurs and artisans, played a significant role in the festival. Over 1,500 units were sold per minute by SMBs during the first 48 hours.
Over 8,000 sellers crossed Rs. 1 lakh in sales, and more than 20,000 SMBs doubled their sales compared to an average day. Sellers from tier 2 and 3 cities such as Moradabad, Jodhpur, and Surat contributed to this success.
Amazon Pay’s Growing Role
Amazon Pay saw a rise in usage, with 1 in 11 orders placed via Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card and a 16% year-on-year growth in UPI transactions. More than 25% of customers used Amazon Pay for their purchases, and travel bookings via Amazon Pay doubled compared to last year.
Sales Trends Across Categories
- Smartphones: 75% of sales came from tier 2–3 towns, with 70% of premium phone sales from cities beyond tier 2.
- Televisions: 80% of TV orders were from tier 2–3 cities.
- Laptops & Headphones: Laptops saw a 5x growth, while headphones and cameras saw double-digit growth in these cities.
- Large Appliances: Sales of washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners grew 1.4x in tier 2–3 cities compared to tier 1.
- Amazon Fresh: Tier 2 and tier 3 cities saw a 1.6x increase in grocery orders.
- Furniture and Appliances: Categories like air fryers and robotic vacuum cleaners saw more than 30% growth across tier 2 cities.
Popular Purchases
- Gaming Laptops: Sales grew 19x compared to pre-festive periods.
- Premium Smartwatches: Brands like Amazfit and Samsung saw significant year-on-year growth.
- Fitness Products: Premium cameras, smart fans, air fryers, and home security systems saw a sharp increase in demand.
- B2B Shopping: New business registrations on Amazon Business grew 4.5x, and bulk orders surged 12x compared to normal business days.
- Fashion & Beauty: More than 60% of fashion and beauty orders came from tier 2 and smaller cities, contributing to over 55% of total orders.
- Books & Toys: These categories saw over 150% growth in new customers within the first 48 hours.
- Amazon Pay Travel Bookings: Customers booked 2x more flights and 1.6x more hotels, with 50% of these bookings coming from new customers.
- Furniture & Mattresses: Amazon emerged as a top destination for furniture shopping, seeing 1.4x year-on-year growth in this category.
- Subscribe and Save: The “Subscribe and Save” program saw a 3x spike during the first 48 hours of the festival.
Bazaars and Convenience
The Amazon Bazaar section witnessed a 10x growth in daily shoppers compared to pre-event averages. More than 50% of these shoppers were new or returning after over a year.
Customers also took advantage of free installation services and extended warranties for appliances, making the festival a convenient and cost-saving shopping experience.
Logistics Expansion
In preparation for the festival, Amazon added three new fulfillment centers in Delhi NCR, Guwahati, and Patna. Additionally, over 110,000 seasonal jobs were created to enhance delivery experiences.
