Sennheiser has announced the launch of its MD 421 Kompakt Microphone in India, designed for both live sound and recording purposes.
The MD 421 Kompakt microphone features a cardioid pickup pattern and a broad dynamic range for clear sound, along with a redesigned mounting clip for secure placement. According to Sennheiser, the MD 421 series has been part of award-winning performances for over 60 years.
The MD 421 Kompakt retains the large-diaphragm capsule of the MD 421-II but removes the bass roll-off switch for a more compact design, still delivering the detailed sound for which the series is known.
Covering a frequency range of 30 Hz to 17 kHz, it accurately captures both high and low frequencies, with enhanced low-end response and effective feedback rejection, making it suitable for high sound pressure levels.
The MD 421 Kompakt features a redesigned clip integrated into the microphone’s housing for secure mounting. Jimmy Landry, Sennheiser’s Global Category Market Manager, remarked that the new clip addresses past user criticisms and allows for secure attachment of an optional drum clamp.
Built for demanding environments, the microphone boasts a sturdy design with a stainless-steel basket and a gold-plated XLR-3 connector. A protective inner chassis shields it from dust and humidity, ensuring durability for touring and studio use.

Speaking about the launch, Vipin Pungalia, Country Manager and Director of Sales Pro Audio at Sennheiser India, stated,
The MD 421 is an incredibly versatile microphone. Since its inception in 1960, it has excelled as both a studio and vocal microphone, finding significant use in broadcasting alongside many celebrities of the time. Today, its successor, the MD 421-II, which launched in 1998, serves as an all-rounder for multipurpose miking, well-known for its applications on drums, guitar cabs, and horns. It captures sound sources with precision, detail, and richness. With the MD 421 Kompakt, we offer the same legendary sound and ability to handle high sound pressure levels, but in an incredibly compact form factor.
