We got some time to play with the recently announced Nokia 710 , Windows 7.5 based phone. We also had the HTC Radar which is a close match to the 710 in terms of specifications and target market.
Click through to check out some comparative images and our thoughts on the two.
The Nokia 710 feels like a mid range device through and through. This is compounded by the fully plastic construction of the phone. In comparison the HTC Radar follows a unibody design philosophy making liberal use of aluminum along with elegant while plastic panels.
Owing to the aluminum construction , the Radar is however heavier than the 710. Over all , we’d rate the HTC Radar higher in the looks department.
Both phones come with 5MP camera units capable of auto focus and 720p video. While we cannot comment on the image quality of the 710 without a full review , you can get a better idea of the camera on the Radar by reading our review.
As can be seen above , the 710 is just a bit thicker than the Radar. The 710 however feels just as comfortable if not more than the Radar when held in hand. The gently curve of the back of the handset definitely helps in terms of ergonomics.
Worth mentioning is the fact that the Radar uses capacitive buttons below the screen while the Nokia 710 relies on a physical strip. In our brief hands on time with the phone, the buttons felt responsive enough giving sufficient tactile feedback.
The display on the Nokia 710 clocks in at 3.5″ in comparison to the 3.8″ panel on the Radar. The difference in real life usage is minimal. Where the difference does lie is in the panel. The Radar uses a S-LCD display panel which gives it superior colors , viewing angles. The black levels are also markedly better on the Radar.
