MediaTek Dimensity 9400 3nm SoC official: Up to 35% faster CPU, 40% improved power efficiency


MediaTek just announced Dimensity 9400, the company’s latest flagship SoC, as the successor to Dimensity 9300 / 9300+. It uses second-generation TSMC’s 3nm process tech and the second-generation all-large core CPU architecture.

Compared to the previous generation, the Dimensity 9400 flagship chip has a 40% reduction in power consumption with the same performance, achieving energy efficiency, said the company.

In addition, the Dimensity scheduling engine dynamically schedules performance and energy efficiency through foreground application computing power tilt, real-time detection and perception flexible adjustment, and key resources dedicated to dedicated channels for a smooth experience.

CPU

The Dimensity 9400 uses 1 x ARM Cortex-X925 performance cores clocked at 3.62GHz, 3 x Cortex-X4 performance cores clocked at 3.30 GHz and 4 x Cortex-A720 effeciency cores clocked at 2.4GHz. Its single-core performance is improved by 35% compared to the previous generation, and its multi-core performance is improved by 28%, said the company.

In addition, it adopts the PC-level Armv9 architecture, doubles the cache, and is the first to support 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X memory.

GPU

The 12-core GPU, Immortalis-G925, combines powerful performance with extraordinary low power consumption. Compared with the previous generation, its peak performance is improved by 41% and power consumption is reduced by 44%. Even for heavy-loaded mobile games, it can achieve full frame rate, and power consumption is reduced to the greater extent, bringing a PC-level gaming experience, according to the company.

Additionally, the Dimensity 9400 supports HyperEngine technology for super resolution and impressive picture quality, which is co-developed by MediaTek and Arm Accurate Super Resolution (Arm ASR).

The ray tracing performance is 40% higher than the previous generation, greatly enhancing the user’s immersive gaming experience, added the company. The release of the PC-level Dimensity OMM ray tracing engine will offer realistic gaming light and shadow effects for users. At the same time, the Dimensity Star Speed ​​Engine has also evolved again, with more sensitive control, smoother gameplay, and more stunning image quality, further unleashing new gaming potential, it added.

APU

The Dimensity 9400 features an eighth-generation AI processor NPU 890 with hardware acceleration for text, image, and speech. It supports Google’s Gemini Nano with new multimodal capabilities with a processing capacity of up to 50 tokens/second, which helps mobile phones not only understand and infer the content of pictures, but also understand the relative relationship between pictures, text, and numbers, inspiring new ideas for AI applications, said the company.

It is the first mobile chipset to offer on-device LoRA training, high-quality on-device video generation, and developer support for Agentic AI, said the company.

To allow users to take advantage of the latest agentic and generative AI applications, the Dimensity 9400 promises up to 80% faster large language model (LLM) prompt performance while also being up to 35% more power efficient than the Dimensity 9300.

The Dimensity 9400 also integrates MediaTek’s new Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE), which is designed to turn traditional AI applications into sophisticated agentic AI applications. MediaTek is working with developers to offer a unified interface between AI agents, third-party APKs, and models that efficiently runs both edge AI and cloud services.

This streamlined approach allows models to work with many different third-party APKs, which reduces development time and will help usher in a new ecosystem of agentic AI applications.

MediaTek said that it has partnered with HONOR, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and Transsion for Dimensity AI intelligent integrated engine pioneer plan.

Display and ISP

The Dimensity 9400 SoC supports Dimensity adaptive HDR display technology. Advanced algorithms can be used to automatically adjust the screen brightness, contrast, and color saturation to adapt to the surrounding light conditions, ensuring a consistent visual experience in all scenarios. Whether it is a sunny day or late at night, it can truly restore details and colors! It also supports Dimensity three-channel display technology, providing higher resolution and refresh rate, providing flexibility for device manufacturers’ designs.

With MediaTek Imagiq 1090, the Dimensity 9400 provides HDR video recording throughout the entire zoom range, so users can snap the perfect moment from a distance; MediaTek’s Smooth Zoom technology also makes it easy to capture moving subjects.

Additionally, it is designed to minimize power consumption while users are taking photos and videos, offering up to 14% lower power consumption in 4K60 video capture compared to the Dimensity 9300.

Connectivity

The Dimensity 9400 adopts new 4nm Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip with 7.3Gbps data rates performance and up to 50% lower power consumption compared to the previous generation.

There is tri-band concurrent Wi-Fi 7, and with MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0 technology, the Wi-Fi signal coverage can be extended to 30 meters, and you can enjoy smooth gaming network speed instantly.

There is 12 megabit ultra-high Bluetooth throughput and support 384KHz audio transmission, allowing you to easily cope with high bandwidth requirements. And with the help of dual Bluetooth fusion BLR technology, the Bluetooth connection distance limit can be increased to 1500 meters, taking you to the first kilometer-level network-free communication era!

Availability

vivo X200 series that will be introduced in China on October 14th will be the first to use the Dimensity 9400 flagship chip. The vivo X200 series is the first to break the 3 million running score mark. At the same time, it will be the world’s first kilometer-level network-free communication and “Dark Zone Breakout” 90fps full-frame mobile ray tracing technology, it added.

OPPO has also confirmed that its Find X8 series which will be introduced on October 24th will use the Dimensity 9400 flagship chip.
