HUAWEI has scheduled an all-scenario product launch conference for October 22nd in China. The company is expected to release the nova 13 series and has confirmed the announcement of the much-anticipated HarmonyOS Next.
This is the latest iteration of the company’s existing HarmonyOS, which is expected to eliminate reliance on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and will fully adopt a self-developed microkernel operating system based on the OpenHarmony open-source core.
The OS will rely on App Gallery for application downloads and HUAWEI Mobile Services (HMS) for core services. Developers are instructed to rely on API 12 apps and use the company’s own ArkUI and ArkCompiler for seamless development.
It is said that HarmonyOS Next already supports over 10,000 apps and services, covering over 90% of the general consumer use cases. The OS will aim to act as a unified system for all device forms, utilizing the Super Device feature, which integrates different smart devices into a single “super device.” This allows all devices to work collaboratively, sharing their resources to provide users with a seamless experience.
HUAWEI Mate 70 series with HMOS Next?
The company’s upcoming flagship device, the Mate 70 series, is expected to be released in November 2024. It is rumored to come with dual framework system, meaning it can natively run HMOS Next-based apps as well as AOSP-based apps.
This dual framework strategy hints at the global launch of the series. Maybe, the company might restrict exclusive HMOS Next variant devices to China, encouraging developers to develop native OS app.
We should get more information about the HarmonyOS Next and its rollout next week.
