Amazon introduces Kindle Colorsoft, upgrades Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Scribe

Amazon has introduced Kindle Colorsoft, the company’s first color Kindle and has introduced new Kindle (11th Generation), Kindle Paperwhite (12th Generation) and Kindle Scribe (2024) models. Amazon has also Kindle Oasis, which was the only Kindle still available with physical page-turn buttons, after the second upgrade in 2019.

Kindle Colorsoft

The Kinde Colorsoft is the first Kindle from with a 7-inch 150 ppi color display, which the company calls Colorsoft display technology with high-contrast. It has built-in light, 300 ppi B&W, 150 ppi color, optimized font technology, and 16-level gray scale.

The company said that this uses custom formulated coatings between the display layers to enhance the color, a light guide with micro-deflectors to minimize stray light, and an ultra-thin coating in the display stack to improve optical performance.  The display uses oxide backplane for sharper contrast, faster page turns, and better image quality, said Amazon.

You can now highlight in yellow, orange, blue, or pink, and search for your highlights by color. It has IPX8 waterproof ratings, has 32 GB storage, promises up to 8 weeks of battery life, has USB-C wired charging and also has wireless charging.

Kindle (11th Generation)

The new entry-level Kindle (11th Generation) still has a 6″ 300 ppi, glare-free display, but the front light is brighter at max setting at up to 94 nits, and has faster page turns.

Weighing in at just 158g, it comes in a new Matcha color, in addition to Black. It promises up to 6 weeks of battery life, and has 16 GB of storage.

Kindle Paperwhite (12th Generation)

The new Kindle Paperwhite (12th Generation) has a larger, 7-inch glare-free 300 PPI display, a first for Kindle Paperwhite, and it is also the thinnest Kindle Paperwhite ever with up to 12 weeks or 3 months of battery life.

This offers 25% faster page turns, has 16 GB of storage and also comes in Signature Edition with 32 GB storage in Metallic Black, Metallic Jade, and Metallic Raspberry colours, optional wireless charging, and auto-adjusting front light.

Kindle Scribe (2024)

The new Kindle Scribe (2024) is an upgrade to the first Scribe, which was introduced back in 2022. This has a similar 10.2″ glare-free 300 ppi screen, but the bezels are now white and the same size on all four sides. The screen has a smooth, paper-like texture that makes it look and feel like you’re writing on a sheet of paper, said the company.

The Premium Pen now offers the right heft and balance, so it feels like holding an actual pen, and the new soft-tipped eraser feels like a pencil—you’ll think you have to brush the screen clean after erasing, Amazon added.

The new Kindle Scribe has Active Canvas that lets you write your thoughts directly in the book. “Your note becomes part of the page, and the book text dynamically flows around it—if you increase the font size, change the font style, or the book layout changes, the note remains visible exactly where you want it so you never lose any meaning or context,” said Amazon.

Soon, you’ll also be able to write your notes in the side panel and easily hide them when you are done. The all-new, built-in AI-powered notebook enables you to quickly summarize pages and pages of notes into concise bullets in a script font that can be easily shared directly from the notebook tab. You can also refine your notes into a script font, so it becomes legible while maintaining the look and feel of handwriting.

It still comes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models and promises up to 12 weeks or 3 months of battery life.
