Google began rolling out the Android 15 update for Pixel devices nearly a week ago, introducing various improvements. However, Pixel 6 owners may want to postpone installing the update. Reports indicate that the Android 15 update is causing Pixel 6 devices to brick unexpectedly, rendering them unusable.
The Pixel 6 series has faced issues with previous updates. Last year, the Android 14 update locked some users out of their storage, and earlier this year, factory resets rendered many Pixel 6 devices unresponsive, as reported by Android Police.
Now, the Android 15 update seems to be causing even more serious issues, with some users left with completely non-functional devices.
Android 15 and Private Space Feature Causing Bricking Issues
On Reddit, users have reported that their Pixel 6 devices have bricked after enabling the Private Space feature. One user, GegoByte, noted their phone bricked immediately after opening an app within Private Space. Another user, Homer_95, said their device died during regular use despite having enough battery life.
Both described their phones as “completely dead,” and standard troubleshooting methods, like holding the Power and Volume Down buttons or connecting to a computer, were ineffective.
Initially, it appeared that user profiles might be to blame, similar to the Android 14 update, as Private Space functions as a new user profile. However, since those initial reports, additional users have shared experiences of their Pixel 6 devices bricking randomly after the update, leaving the exact cause unclear.
Android Police mentioned that they have not encountered issues with their Pixel 6 yet, but due to the number of affected devices, it may be prudent to avoid updating for now. This issue does not seem isolated to the Pixel 6; Pixel 8 Pro users recently reported problems with the back gesture following the Android 15 update.
Currently, there has been no official response from Google, but one may be expected soon.
