HUAWEI has launched HarmonyOS NEXT, its latest operating system featuring a new user interface and enhanced performance aimed at improving user experience.
This version represents Huawei’s first fully independent operating system, distinct from Android and the Linux kernel, as it transitions its devices to an entirely in-house OS.
HarmonyOS NEXT
HarmonyOS NEXT introduces a refreshed visual identity with customizable lock screens and home screens, a redesigned control center, and quicker app launch speeds.
According to HUAWEI, the operating system incorporates a self-developed microkernel based on the OpenHarmony open-source framework.
It supports applications through the Huawei Ark compiler, ensuring seamless integration between HarmonyOS NEXT devices and the cloud, as well as interoperability across various devices.

Richard Yu, Chairman of HUAWEI Consumer Business Group, announced that the HarmonyOS NEXT ecosystem now includes 15,000 apps and services, with the earlier HarmonyOS versions operating on over 1 billion devices worldwide, encompassing smartphones, tablets, wearables, and smart home systems.
Availability and Rollout
The first public beta of HarmonyOS NEXT began rolling out on October 8, 2024, specifically in the Chinese region.
