Google on Monday announced the rollout of AI Overviews to over 100 countries, enhancing access in multiple languages. This follows the feature’s initial expansion beyond the U.S. in August this year.
Expanded Language Support
With this update, Google is increasing language support across all regions where AI Overviews are available. Users can now view AI Overviews in various languages, including English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
For instance, a Spanish speaker in the U.S. can now receive AI Overviews in their preferred language. According to Srinivasan (Cheenu) Venkatachary, VP of Search Quality, this expansion will allow more than 1 billion users worldwide to access AI Overviews each month.
Enhancing Content Discovery
Google aims to improve how users discover content from publishers, businesses, and creators through AI Overviews in Search.
Since May, the company has introduced more visible links to relevant websites within AI Overviews. Users can now find a link display on the right side of the desktop interface and a similar feature on mobile by tapping site icons in the upper right corner.
Recently, Google launched in-line links that appear within the text of AI Overviews. Tests show these updates have led to increased traffic for linked websites compared to previous designs.
Advertisements and User Experience
As part of the announcement, Google emphasized that ads will still be featured in designated slots throughout the page, clearly labeled to differentiate them from organic results.
Ads within AI Overviews are now available for relevant queries on mobile devices in the U.S., helping connect users with useful products and brands.
Availability
Starting this week, AI Overviews will begin to roll out in over 100 countries and territories globally.
