Telegram has introduced several significant updates in version 11.3.0, enhancing the overall user experience. These updates include faster video loading, improved quality, new speed controls for videos, last edit timestamps for messages, media attachment capabilities, and expanded options for developers.
Here’s a closer look at what’s new:
Faster Video Loading and Quality Control
The video player for large channel uploads now automatically selects the optimal quality based on your internet connection, helping to save data and load videos more quickly.
Users can choose their preferred quality settings—High, Medium, or Low—by tapping the ⚙️ gear icon while watching. On iOS, Picture-in-Picture Mode is more accessible; users can simply swipe up to continue watching while navigating their chats.
Telegram also optimizes and compresses videos automatically, allowing channel owners to share high-quality content without prior processing. Users with slower connections will receive more compressed videos, while those on high-speed networks can enjoy full resolution. These enhancements apply to channels with thousands of subscribers.
New Playback Speed Options
Telegram now simplifies video playback speed adjustment, allowing users to hold the right side of the video to activate 1.5x speed and slide right to increase it up to 2.5x.
Releasing the touch returns the speed to normal. On Android, double-tapping the left or right side of the video skips forward or backward by 10 seconds.
Media Attachment in Messages
Users can now edit sent messages to add media if they forget to attach files. This can be done in just two taps, eliminating the need to delete and resend the message. Additionally, users can re-edit photos or replace media in their messages.
Last Edit Timestamps for Messages
Edited messages will now display a timestamp indicating when they were last modified. If a message is edited multiple times, the latest edit time will be shown. In small groups and private chats, detailed read receipts will indicate when members opened a message.
Chat-Specific Hashtags
Group and channel owners can now create chat-specific hashtags using the format #hashtag@username. Tapping on a hashtag like #travel will display results from the entire platform, while #travel@durov will show only results from that specific channel. A new menu in public chats makes it easy to add the chat’s username to hashtags.
Revenue Sharing for Bots
Bots and mini apps can now participate in revenue sharing from Telegram Ads, allowing them to support their development financially. Telegram Ads are designed to be unobtrusive and respect user privacy, with 50% of ad revenue shared with content creators and bot developers.
Increased Message Limits for Bots
All Telegram bots can send up to 30 messages per second for free. For larger services, bots can now increase this limit to 1,000 messages per second. Using this increased limit costs just 0.1 Star per message, paid from the bot’s balance, which can be funded through paid content and digital products.
Exact Reaction Counters
Users can now obtain detailed counts of specific reactions, such as hearts or stars, by pressing and holding the reaction counters on their posts.
Halloween Gifting
In celebration of Halloween, Telegram has introduced new limited gifts for users.
Availability
The updates in Telegram v11.3.0 are now available for all iOS users and those who downloaded Telegram for Android directly from telegram.org/android or via the Google Play Store.
