Amazon India today announced that its month-long Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2024 has been the most successful shopping event yet for customers, sellers, and brand partners nationwide.
Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2024 Highlights
The AGIF kicked off on September 27, beginning with 24 hours of Prime Early Access. During this period, customers could browse more than 25,000 new product launches from top brands across various categories, such as laptops, televisions, smartphones, fashion, beauty, home décor, appliances, furniture, and groceries.
Seller Achievements
AGIF 2024 set impressive records for sellers:
- There was a 70% increase in the number of sellers achieving sales of over Rs. 1 crore compared to last year.
- During the event, small and medium businesses, including women entrepreneurs, weavers, and artisans, sold over 1,000 items per minute.
- More than 42,000 sellers achieved their highest single-day sales during AGIF 2024.
- Sales were recorded from a record number of pin codes, with over 4,500 sellers experiencing a 10x sales spike, 7,000 sellers seeing a 5x spike, and over 13,000 sellers enjoying a 2x increase in sales compared to last year.
- Approximately 70% of participating sellers came from tier 2 and lower cities, marking the highest number of sellers from these areas compared to AGIF 2023.
Enhanced Payment Options
Amazon Pay saw significant growth:
- The usage of the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card increased by 50% as customers took advantage of substantial rewards.
- One in three customers used Amazon Pay UPI, representing a 20% increase from last year, with 80% of users from tier 2 and 3 cities.
- Flight bookings rose by 20% year-on-year, while hotel bookings surged by 60%, with a 50% increase in new customers booking flights.
- Gift card sales were up by 40%, and the value of branded gift cards doubled compared to 2023.
- Bill payments grew by 30% this festive season, driven by 50% more mobile recharges and a 40% spike in subscription payments. Prime members accounted for a 55% increase in bill payments.
- Big-ticket purchases benefited from EMI options, with 1 in 4 electronics sales using EMIs; 4 out of 5 of these were No Cost EMIs, showing a 45% year-on-year growth. Overall, EMI adoption increased by 25% compared to 2023.
Prime Membership Surge
AGIF 2024 also saw a surge in Prime memberships:
- The festival recorded the highest number of Prime sign-ups on a single day within the first 48 hours.
- Prime members focused on shopping for beauty, apparel, and home products, with 1 in 3 buying skincare, traditional wear, and home décor.
- Approximately 70% of Prime members shopping during the festive season hailed from tier 2 and 3 cities, up from 60% last year.
- Prime members across 9,000+ pin codes received their orders within 48 hours of placement.
Popular Shopping Categories Across India
- 5G Smartphones: Strong demand in the budget segment (under INR 10,000), particularly for brands like Realme, iQOO, and Xiaomi.
- Large-Screen TVs: Samsung, Xiaomi, and Sony led TV sales, with large screens making up one-third of units sold and a 10% growth YoY.
- Amazon Devices: The Fire TV Stick was a top-seller, and the Redmi Smart Fire TV 32” emerged as the best-selling TV.
- Laptops: Sales rose 30% YoY, with high demand for Intel i3, i5, and i7 non-gaming models, as well as a 55% increase in gaming laptops.
- Audio Devices: True wireless earphones and Bluetooth speakers saw over 50% growth.
- Smart Home Combos: Smart products bundled with Echo speakers, like plugs and bulbs, saw high sales.
- Festive Décor: Products like string lights, urli bowls, and garlands witnessed notable growth compared to last year.
Growth in Premium Products
Premium products were especially popular during AGIF 2024:
- Smartphones: The premium segment (above INR 30,000) saw the highest YoY growth among all price categories.
- Tablets: Premium tablets from Apple and Samsung grew 10X and 5X, respectively.
- Soundbars and Gaming Consoles: Premium soundbars rose by 40%, and PS5 SLIM consoles saw 17% YoY growth.
- Home Appliances: Demand for large-capacity washing machines and refrigerators grew by 30% YoY.
Demand from Non-Metro Cities
Non-metro regions drove substantial growth during the festival:
- Over 70% of premium smartphone sales came from Tier 2 and beyond cities.
- More than 50% of TV purchases originated from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
- Tier 2 cities led a 25% growth in large appliance sales, with air conditioners and refrigerators in high demand.
- Amazon Fresh orders from Tier 2 and 3 cities increased by 1.8X.
Enhanced Purchase Experience
AGIF 2024 offered numerous enhancements to make shopping seamless:
- Installation services grew by 3.3X YoY, with customers benefiting from free installations on TVs, furniture, and appliances in over 400 cities.
- Exchange discounts saw a 60% increase, with discounts reaching up to INR 80,000.
- Same-day installation on TVs and appliances was available in 55 cities.
Amazon Business Drives Festive B2B Sales
AGIF 2024 was significant for B2B customers, with a 50% increase in businesses making their first purchases on Amazon Business. Prime sign-ups for business customers rose by 70%, and bulk orders grew 70%, supported by quantity discounts and exclusive deals.
