Sony India today announced the rollout of SDK version 2.4.0 for its Spatial Reality Displays (SRD), introducing new tools and features aimed at enhancing the 3D content creation and viewing experience.
This update includes multi-display support, viewer log functionality, and expanded platform compatibility, providing content creators with more opportunities to produce immersive and impactful 3D content.
Multi-Display Support for Expansive 3D Experiences
SDK 2.4.0 now supports combining multiple Spatial Reality Displays for larger, more dynamic visual setups. Key configurations include:
- Vertical Array: Stack up to 4 displays for life-sized, full-body visuals or tall content, ideal for immersive exhibits and installations.
- Horizontal Array: Align up to 3 displays to create wide, panoramic 3D visuals, ideal for large presentations.
- Grid Array: Arrange 4 displays in a 2×2 grid, offering the equivalent of a 55-inch screen for displaying large objects and creating impactful 3D experiences.
Viewer Log for Performance Insights
A new viewer log feature allows content creators to track viewer engagement, including the number of viewers and viewing duration. The company stated that this data helps optimize content and improve audience interaction at events and installations.
Expanded Support for Key Development Platforms
SDK 2.4.0 also extends support for essential development platforms, including:
- Unreal Engine 5.4
- Unity Plugin DX12
- OpenXR compatibility
These updates simplify integration with existing workflows, enabling the creation of realistic and immersive 3D content. Additionally, compatibility with OpenUSD-based experiences on NVIDIA Omniverse allows creators to view and manipulate 3D assets in real time.
Upcoming Firmware Version 1.30.00 for Enhanced Display Performance
Alongside the SDK update, Sony will release firmware version 1.30.00 for the ELF-SR2 model in late November 2024. The update enhances facial recognition for smoother 3D viewing, expands color gamut support to DCI-P3 and Rec.2020 for more vibrant colors, and introduces side-by-side stereoscopic 3D viewing, activated through the function (Fn) button, to improve depth and realism.
