Google rolls out Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 update


Google has started rolling out the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 update to Pixel devices, following the stable release of Android 15 last month.

Quarterly Platform Releases (QPRs) provide more substantial changes than monthly bug fixes, allowing for major UI tweaks and new features. These updates are generally stable and suitable for everyday use, with Android 15 QPR2 officially scheduled to launch in March 2025.

New Features in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 (as shared by Mishaal Rahman)

  • Customizable Do Not Disturb Modes: The new Modes feature allows users to set personalized Do Not Disturb schedules, providing greater control over notifications.
  • Linux Terminal App: Google is adding a Linux Terminal app that lets developers run Linux apps in a virtual machine on Pixel devices.
  • Reorganized Touchpad & Mouse Settings: The touchpad and mouse settings have been moved to a submenu, which now includes options for pointer color customization.
  • Mouse Keys: A new Mouse Keys feature allows users to control the mouse cursor using the numpad on a keyboard.
  • Linux 6.1 Upgrade for Tensor Chips: Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 will introduce a Linux 6.1 upgrade for Pixel devices with Tensor G1, G2, and G3 chips.
  • Icon Shape Customization: The option to customize icon shapes, originally introduced in Android 11 and removed in Android 12, is expected to return for Pixel devices.
Availability

To install Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1, enroll your Pixel device in the Beta program.

  • Eligible devices include Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Tablet.
  • Once enrolled, your device will get an over-the-air (OTA) update. If you were already in the Android 15 QPR1 Beta and didn’t opt out, the QPR2 Beta 1 update will arrive automatically.

After enrolling, your device will receive the OTA update, which may take up to 24 hours. If you were part of the Android 15 QPR1 Beta and haven’t opted out, the QPR2 Beta 1 update will arrive automatically.

To check manually, go to Settings > System > System Updates. For any issues, use the Android Beta Feedback app included in the Beta build to report bugs.

Important Notes

  • Opting Out of Beta: If you’re currently enrolled in Android 15 QPR1 Beta and want to exit the Beta program, you can do so without wiping your device. However, opting out after installing Beta 1 will cause a data wipe. To avoid this, opt-out before installing Beta 1 or any future updates.
