OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT Pro with o1 Pro Mode

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Pro, a new monthly subscription plan that offers advanced access to its top-tier AI models and tools. The company stated that this plan is aimed at researchers, engineers, and professionals who use advanced AI to stay ahead of innovations and improve productivity.

Key Features of ChatGPT Pro

Unlimited Access to Advanced Models

ChatGPT Pro subscribers get unrestricted access to OpenAI’s most powerful models, including o1, o1-mini, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice. A key highlight is o1 Pro mode, which leverages more computational power to deliver more accurate answers to complex queries. OpenAI plans to continuously add more powerful features to this plan.

Enhanced Performance for Complex Problems

ChatGPT Pro provides increased processing power, making it ideal for tackling challenging problems. The o1 Pro mode delivers more precise and comprehensive responses, especially in fields like data science, programming, and case law analysis. In external evaluations, o1 Pro mode outperformed other models, such as o1-preview, by demonstrating higher reliability and precision.

Benchmark Improvements

OpenAI’s o1 Pro mode has shown significant improvements in benchmark tests. In AIME 2024, it scored 86 points, while o1-preview earned only 50 points. On Codeforces, o1 Pro scored 90 points, compared to 62 for o1-preview.

In GPQA Diamond, o1 Pro achieved 79 points, whereas o1-preview scored 74. These results highlight the superior reliability and performance of o1 Pro mode for complex tasks.

Reduced Processing Time with Increased Accuracy

OpenAI has reduced the time it takes for the o1 model to generate responses. For simpler questions, o1 now provides faster answers, while more complex queries still receive quicker results than the previous o1-preview model.

Although o1 Pro mode takes longer due to higher computational requirements, the answers are more reliable. A progress bar notifies users while waiting for responses.

Support for Web Browsing and File Uploads

In the future, OpenAI intends to roll out features such as web browsing, file uploads, and multimodal image processing. Currently, the o1 model supports image input, allowing users to upload and process images for various tasks.

Supporting Innovation with Pro Grants

To foster advancements in fields that benefit humanity, OpenAI is awarding 10 ChatGPT Pro grants to U.S.-based medical researchers. Recipients include:

  • Catherine Brownstein, PhD (Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School) – Focused on rare and orphan disease genetics.
  • Justin Reese, PhD (Berkeley Lab) – Specializes in biomedical data analysis for disease research.
  • Rhoda Au, PhD (Boston University) – Researches aging and dementia.
  • Derya Unutmaz, MD (The Jackson Laboratory) – Explores cancer immunotherapy and aging.

OpenAI plans to expand these grants to additional regions and research areas in the future.

Looking Ahead

OpenAI plans to expand the capabilities of ChatGPT Pro over time, unlocking more compute-heavy tasks. These updates will also be made available to other subscribers in due course, the company stated.

Pricing and Availability

ChatGPT Pro is available for USD 200 (Rs. 16,940 approx.) per month and can be purchased directly from OpenAI’s website.

  • Additionally, the full o1 model is rolling out to all ChatGPT Plus and new ChatGPT Pro users.
  • For those seeking a more affordable option, ChatGPT Plus remains available at USD 20 (Rs. 1,690 approx.) per month.
