Samsung Project Moohan Android XR headset unveiled

Samsung today announced “Unlock the Infinite Possibilities of XR With Galaxy AI,” highlighting its collaboration with Google’s Android XR operating system for future extended reality (XR) devices.

XR, or Extended Reality, encompasses technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and other immersive technologies yet to be developed. XR merges the physical and digital worlds, enabling dynamic interactions across work, learning, entertainment, gaming, and wellness.

Samsung’s Vision for XR

Samsung emphasized its commitment to enhancing user experiences through cutting-edge technology. “We believe now is the time to unlock the potential of XR through Galaxy AI,” the company stated. By combining multimodal technology with the broader Galaxy ecosystem, XR offers intuitive, natural interactions that transform everyday life.

Partnerships and Collaboration

Samsung highlighted its open collaboration with Google and Qualcomm in creating the new Android XR platform. The company noted its long-standing partnerships in designing and optimizing technology, calling this initiative “one of our most ambitious endeavors.”

Advanced Content and Features

The platform will support headsets and glasses, providing rich content from the Galaxy ecosystem, Google apps, and third-party developers. With Gemini’s conversational UI and contextual awareness, users will experience voice-driven, natural interactions beyond basic gestures or controllers.

Project Moohan: The First Android XR Headset

Samsung also announced “Project Moohan,” its first Android XR headset. The name “Moohan,” meaning “infinity” in Korean, symbolizes the limitless immersive experiences envisioned.

Equipped with advanced displays, Passthrough capabilities, and natural multi-modal input, the lightweight, ergonomically designed headset promises seamless XR experiences through Google Maps, YouTube, and Gemini-powered trip planning.

Speaking about XR, Won-Joon Choi, EVP and Head of R&D, Mobile eXperience Business, said,
