OnePlus Open 2 detailed specs, renders surface

OnePlus is expected to soon launch the OnePlus Open 2, the brand’s next foldable phone, and early renders have provided a glimpse into its design and features. A new report from Smartprix highlights that while the device retains a familiar look, it comes with several key upgrades.

Design and Build

The OnePlus Open 2 shares a design similar to its predecessor, the OnePlus Open, with a large circular rear camera housing that remains its hallmark.

However, the internal camera layout has changed, with three rear sensors now positioned in the top half of the circle and Hasselblad branding at the bottom. Another noticeable design update is the curved rear edges, differing from the flatter body of the original Open.

When unfolded, the Open 2 appears similar to the original but is both larger and thinner. With a folded thickness of under 10mm, it could rank among the slimmest foldable devices on the market. However, as these renders are based on a late-stage production prototype, the final design may differ slightly, the report cautioned.

Display and Performance

The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to feature an 8-inch, 120Hz, 2K LTPO main display, an upgrade from the 7.82-inch panel on the original. The outer screen will also see a slight size increase, measuring 6.4 inches compared to the previous 6.31 inches.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, the device will come with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, with potential for additional configurations. Its camera system will include a triple 50MP setup, while the front-facing cameras are expected to remain similar to the original Open, featuring 32MP and 20MP sensors.

Upgrades and Features

The OnePlus Open 2 will introduce several enhancements, including an IPX8 water resistance rating, a significant improvement over the Open’s IPX4 rating. The battery capacity will also increase to 5,900mAh from 4,800mAh.

Charging capabilities will see major upgrades, with the inclusion of 50W wireless charging—a first for the series—and 80W wired charging, up from 67W on the original. The device will run OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15.

Launch date?

The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to launch in China in early 2025, followed by a global release later in the first quarter of 2025. It will likely be available in at least two color options, including a standard black variant.
