LG unveils 2025 OLED evo M5 and G5 lineup at CES

LG Electronics (LG) has announced its 2025 OLED evo TV lineup, showcasing a range of advancements in picture quality, AI processing, and user experience. The new lineup includes the M5 and G5 models, with the M5 series being highlighted as the world’s first true wireless OLED TV.

Enhanced Picture Quality and Brightness

At the heart of the new OLED evo models is LG’s latest α (Alpha) 11 AI processor Gen2, which the company claims delivers “unparalleled OLED picture quality.” The TVs feature LG’s upgraded Brightness Booster Ultimate technology, reportedly achieving brightness levels three times higher than conventional OLED models. This boost is attributed to enhanced light control architecture and light-boosting algorithms, resulting in a more vibrant and lifelike viewing experience.

LG emphasizes the TVs’ ability to achieve “flawless blacks” and accurate color reproduction, backed by certifications from UL Solutions and Intertek. The 2025 models also boast rapid brightness and color temperature stabilization, earning them TÜV Rheinland’s “Quick Stability with Image Quality” certification.

Filmmaker Mode with Ambient Light Compensation

A new addition for 2025 is Filmmaker Mode with Ambient Light Compensation. Developed in collaboration with the creative community, this feature adjusts picture settings based on the ambient lighting conditions, aiming to preserve the filmmaker’s original intent across various viewing environments.

Gaming-Focused Features

LG continues to cater to gamers with features tailored for gaming experiences. The new OLED evo TVs are the industry’s first to support 4K 165Hz Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), certified by both NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium. They also boast minimal input lag and are the first TVs to receive ClearMR 10000 certification by VESA, promising smooth motion even in fast-paced action.

AI-Powered Enhancements

The Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen2 powers various AI features designed to enhance both picture and sound quality. Deep learning algorithms analyze and refine low-resolution images, while Dynamic Tone Mapping Professional offers fine-tuning of HDR10 content. AI Sound Pro delivers virtual 11.1.2 channel surround sound and adjusts tonal balance for a tailored listening experience.

LG’s AI Picture/Sound Wizard personalizes audio and visual modes by analyzing vast amounts of image and sound data, ensuring a customized entertainment experience for each user.

Personalized User Experience

The user experience is further enhanced by features like AI Remote, which greets users by name and offers tailored recommendations. AI Voice ID recognizes individual voices, switching profiles and delivering personalized content suggestions. AI Search leverages a Large Language Model (LLM) to understand conversational context, while Microsoft Copilot assists in organizing information.

The webOS interface has also been updated for a more streamlined experience, with a faster and more personalized home screen. webOS now supports multi-platform integration with Home Hub, connecting with ThinQ and Google Home ecosystems. The webOS Re:New program promises LG Smart TV owners the latest TV experience for five years.

World’s First True Wireless OLED TV

The M5 series is presented as the world’s first true wireless OLED TV, capable of transferring audio and video wirelessly at up to 144Hz without latency or quality loss. It is also certified by NVIDIA G-SYNC for tear-free and stutter-free gaming.

LG CES 2025 press conference

The LG CES 2025 press conference is set for 11AM ET (9:30PM IST) later today, January 6th.

Awards and Availability

LG’s OLED evo models have received recognition, including the CES 2025 Best of Innovation Award (for 83G5 models) and the Honoree title (83M5 model) in the Video Display category.

Visitors to CES 2025 will have the opportunity to experience these innovations first-hand from January 7-10 at LG’s booth. We can expect the roll-out later of the TVs this year, and pricing should be available during that time.
