International Data Corporation (IDC) has released its latest Worldwide PC Market Tracker, reporting that PC shipments grew by 1.8% year-over-year (YoY) in Q4 2024, with total shipments reaching 262.7 million in 2024, an increase of 1% compared to 2023.
According to research analysts, the minimal growth in Q4 2024 is attributed to various factors such as government subsidies in China, holiday promotions in the Western market, and enterprises looking to upgrade hardware before the end of support for Windows 10, scheduled for October 2025.
Lenovo led the market in Q4 with a 24.5% market share and also for the whole year, with shipments totaling 61.8 million units, reflecting a growth rate of 4.7%. Following Lenovo are HP and Dell, with 20.2% and 14.9% overall market shares, respectively, in 2024. Both companies experienced a minimal decline in growth.
Apple, on the other hand, captured the 4th spot in both Q4 and the whole year. It achieved a growth rate of 17.3% in Q4 2024, the best among all brands, and shipped a total of 22.9 million units in 2024. ASUS secured the fifth spot with total shipments of 17.9 million units, a market share of 6.8%, and a growth rate of 6.4% in 2024.
Overall, 2024 has been a decent year for PC shipments worldwide. The rise of AI PCs is expected to take more time, as a wide range of consumers are only now being introduced to AI advancements, which are relatively new. According to analysts, the growth of AI PCs is inevitable and will occur gradually.
