iPhone 17 Air with large camera bar design surfaces

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air has generated significant speculation as rumors circulate about its design and features. Expected to replace the “Plus” model in the iPhone 17 lineup, this device might feature a unique camera bar on the back, raising questions about its design.

A recent leak shared by tipster Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter) shows what is believed to be the rear design of the iPhone 17 Air. The image displays two devices under a plastic sheet, both featuring the recognizable Apple logo. Key design features include:

  • A raised, pill-shaped camera bar running along the top of the device, with a circular cutout on the left side for a single rear camera.
  • The right side features an LED flash and a small microphone hole.

These details align with rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will be the only model in the series to feature a single camera lens.

Design rumors

Regarding its design, conflicting reports have emerged about the iPhone 17 Air’s thickness. Some sources suggest it will measure around 6.25mm, while others estimate it will fall between 5 and 6mm. Notably, Ming-Chi Kuo forecasts that the device will be just 5.5mm at its thinnest point. In comparison, the current iPhone 16 models are thicker, ranging from 7.8mm to 8.25mm.

The iPhone 17 Air’s rear camera is expected to feature a 48MP single lens, a departure from the dual and triple-camera setups in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models. The thinner design may result from the presence of the camera bar, which could make the top of the device slightly thicker.

While these details match previous leaks, the final design of the iPhone 17 Air could still change. With its launch expected in about eight months, Apple may make adjustments based on further testing. As the release date nears, additional rumors and leaks are likely, but the device’s final form remains uncertain.
