Truecaller, the global leader in caller identification and spam blocking, has announced its largest-ever update for iPhone users. The update brings Truecaller’s advanced spam and scam blocking capabilities to iOS, matching the functionality already available on Android devices.
This upgrade enables the identification of all types of calls, providing iPhone users with a much-needed boost in protection against unwanted calls.
Enhanced Features for iOS 18
Truecaller’s advancements are made possible by Apple’s new Live Caller ID Lookup framework, introduced with iOS 18. This framework allows apps like Truecaller to provide live caller identification while ensuring user privacy through homomorphic encryption. Truecaller is the first company to implement this technology at scale for caller ID purposes.
Previously, the app relied on a smaller, local database stored on iOS devices, limiting its capabilities. With this update, Truecaller now leverages its global database and advanced AI tools to identify a greater number of calls. Additionally, a long-requested feature, automatic spam call blocking, has been added for iPhone users.
Steps to Enable Truecaller on iOS 18.2
To activate Truecaller’s new features, follow these steps:
- Ensure you have Truecaller for iPhone version 14.0 or later.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification on your iPhone.
- Enable all Truecaller switches and reopen the Truecaller app.
Growing Presence on iOS
Truecaller shared its user statistics, revealing that about 30 million iPhone users (7% of its total 435 million monthly active users) are on iOS. Out of Truecaller’s 2.6 million paying subscribers, 750,000 are iOS users, contributing over 40% of the company’s premium revenue. This update is expected to drive further growth in subscriptions.
New Subscription Option: Premium Family Plan
The update also introduces a Premium Family Plan, allowing users to share premium benefits, such as the Truecaller AI Assistant, with up to four additional family members.
This plan is available at an affordable monthly or annual price. In India, the subscription includes fraud insurance, extending protection against fraud to up to five family members.
Availability and Pricing
The new features are available globally for Truecaller Premium subscribers at the same price as the Android offering. Free iOS users can still access ad-supported manual number searches and caller ID for verified businesses.
- Automatic spam blocking is rolling out globally today.
- The enhanced Caller ID feature will be available to all users worldwide in the coming days.
Speaking about the update, Fredrik Kjell, COO of Truecaller, said,
This launch significantly accelerates the growth potential of our rapidly expanding and stable subscription revenues, aligning with our goal to surpass 1 billion SEK in recurring revenues in the coming years. All iOS users will be offered a free trial of our enhanced service, but it will thereafter be accessible exclusively to paying subscribers. We see a considerable opportunity to further boost the conversion rate on iOS, which is already more than five times higher compared to Android.
Commenting on the update, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller, said,
We are proud that, 15 years after Truecaller’s inception, we can now offer iOS users the same world-class Caller ID and spam-blocking experience we’ve perfected on Android. With this launch, we significantly expand our addressable market to new user segments and geographies with higher iOS penetration.
