Apple has introduced the Black Unity Collection to honor Black History Month, celebrating Black culture and community. This collection features a special-edition Apple Watch Black Unity Sport Loop, a corresponding watch face, and iPhone and iPad wallpapers, all inspired by the rhythm of humanity.
Apple Black Unity Collection
The Black Unity Sport Loop sports a unique design that blends the colors of the Pan-African flag – black, green, and red. The band’s pattern uses raised and recessed loops to create a lenticular effect where green shifts to red, with hints of yellow appearing during movement. Made from woven nylon, the band is adjustable, soft, and lightweight.
The accompanying Unity Rhythm watch face brings the theme to life with animated time-telling. When you raise your wrist, the face displays time through numerals formed by threads of red, green, and yellow, reacting dynamically to the watch’s gyroscope. The watch face also chimes rhythmically to mark every hour and half hour.
For the iPhone and iPad, Unity Rhythm wallpapers feature the word “Unity” in custom lettering that changes orientation when the device is unlocked or locked.
Apple is also supporting five organizations globally that focus on rhythm, creativity, and community:
- The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tennessee, dedicated to the history of Black music.
- Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, offering support through art and culture to Indigenous youth.
- Music Forward Foundation in Los Angeles, California, aiding young people to break into the music industry.
- Battersea Arts Centre in London, fostering creative freedom and community support.
- Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans, using music for social change in underserved communities.
Pricing and Availability
- Black Unity Sport Loop: Available for order online today and in Apple Stores this week, priced at Rs. 4,500. It comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes, compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 or later, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra (46mm band only).
- Unity Rhythm Watch Face: Will be available in an upcoming software update, requiring Apple Watch Series 6 or later and iPhone Xs or later.
