Microsoft extends iPhone support in Windows 11 Start menu

Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 users can now access iPhone features directly from the Start menu, similar to what was previously available for Android devices.

This update extends the functionality introduced in the Windows 11 2024 update, where a side panel was added to the Start menu for Android phone integration. Now, iPhone users can enjoy the same benefits:

  • Connecting Your Devices: New users can connect their Android or iPhone by opening the Start menu and selecting the device type from the right-side panel. Follow the instructions displayed to link your device quickly with your PC.

  • iPhone Integration: Once connected, iPhone users can view their phone’s battery status, check connectivity, access messages, make or receive calls, and monitor recent activities all from the Start menu.

  • File Sharing: Building on a feature previewed in December, users can now share files between their Android or iPhone and Windows PC. Just choose “Send files” from the Start menu to initiate transfers.

You can manage these features through Settings > Personalization > Start.

Requirements for this Update
  • You need to have Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 4805 or higher in the Beta Channel, or Build 26120.3000 or higher in the Dev Channel.
  • Ensure you have Phone Link version 1.24121.30.0 or a later version installed.
  • Your PC must be signed into a Microsoft account and should support Bluetooth Low Energy (LE).

Note that these features are not available for PCs running Pro Education or Education SKUs.

Availability

These updates are currently being introduced to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels. A broader rollout to all Windows 11 users is expected in the coming months.
