HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate Design to launch globally on Feb 18

HUAWEI introduced the Mate XT Ultimate Design, the world’s first smartphone with a tri-fold screen in production in China, back in September last year. Today, the company has confirmed the launch of the phone globally at an event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 18th.

HUAWEI has revolutionized foldable phone technology, constantly pushing the limits. There’s something in the works that could disrupt the conventional foldable smartphone design, says the company. Stay tuned for more on 18th February 2025, says the global page, which still shows ‘Innovative product launch’.

To remind you, the phone packs a 6.4-inch FHD+ screen when folded, 7.9-inch 2K screen when open half, and when fully open it transforms into a 10.2-inch tablet with a 3K screen. When fully open, it is just 3.6mm.

The screen is made of multi-directional bending flexible materials, resistant to bending that has been increased by 25% compared to traditional foldables.  The inner fold resists compression, and the outer fold resists tension, said the company.

It features a composite ultra-tough laminated structure, using non-Newtonian fluid and the industry’s largest UTG glass offering double impact resistance and provides reliable protection, said HUAWEI.

It has XMAGE imaging featuring a 50MP 1/1.56″ main camera with variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle and 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto rear camera. There is an 8MP camera on the inside.

The phone packs a 5600mAh world’s thinnest silicon carbon large-capacity battery with a battery thickness of only 1.9mm, said HUAWEI. It supports 66W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging.

Launch event

The HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate Design launch event on February 18th starts at 2:30PM Malaysia time (12PM IST). We should know the price, roll out details and countries on the launch day.
