Apple iPhone 16e with 6.1-inch OLED display, A18 chip, Apple C1 modem announced; India price starts at Rs. 59,900


Apple just announced the new iPhone 16e, the company’s latest smartphone in the iPhone 16 series, replacing the iPhone SE as expected. The successor to the older iPhone SE that was introduced back in 2022 comes with a bigger 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a notch for the Face ID enabled by the TrueDepth camera system, replacing the Touch ID.

This replaces the A15 Bionic with an A18 that features a 16-core neural engine, optimized for running large generative models, and uses 2nd-gen 3nm technology. With the new chip, the SE model also gets Apple Intelligence. It also gets the Action button, allowing users to easily access a variety of functions with just a press.

This comes with C1, Apple’s first 5G modem with all-new internal design. In select countries it has satellite features — including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite.

It features a single 48MP camera with a larger f/1.6 aperture, optical image stabilization and offers a 2x “optical-quality” Telephoto option, according to Apple. It also offers There is also a new 12MP front camera with ƒ/1.9 aperture.

The phone still has Wi-Fi 6 support, but comes with a bigger battery, which, combined with A18 and advanced power management, promises a big boost in battery life. The phone also has IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Pricing and availability

The iPhone 16e comes in Black and White and is priced at Rs. 59,900 for the base 128GB model, since the 64GB is gone. In the US, it costs USD 599 (Rs. 52,060 approx.). It also comes in 256GB and 512GB models, priced at Rs. 69,900 and Rs. 89,900, respectively.

The iPhone 16e Silicone Case will be available in five colours – winter blue, fuchsia, lake green, black, and white for Rs. 3900.

It will be available to order in more than 59 countries and regions, including India from Friday, February 21st and will roll out starting from February 28th.
