IIT Delhi alumni Rupesh Kumar and Ravi Tiwari have introduced PiFy, India’s first WhatsApp-based AI software designed to offer affordable and accessible educational support to students. By scanning a QR code, users can access PiFy on WhatsApp, where they can instantly resolve doubts, generate mock test papers, and create revision notes.
The platform addresses the challenges students face in accessing quality academic help. Unlike many expensive or hard-to-access AI tools, PiFy provides real-time assistance through WhatsApp. Students can send text or image-based queries and receive accurate, step-by-step solutions.
Key Features and Technology
PiFy leverages advanced AI technologies, including Natural Language Processing (NLP) and image recognition, to cater to a wide range of academic needs.
It covers all subjects, competitive exams (such as NEET, JEE, and UPSC), and regional languages. Its ability to process image-based queries distinguishes it from other platforms, making it a versatile tool for students.
Benefits for Students and Teachers
- Instant Doubt Resolution: PiFy offers 24/7 support, making it ideal for late-night study sessions.
- Safe Learning Environment: It provides a confidential space for students who may hesitate to ask questions in traditional classrooms.
- Enhanced Learning: Detailed solutions and summarized key concepts help students understand and retain information better.
- Teacher Support: PiFy assists educators in creating lesson plans, assignments, and exam papers.
- User-Friendly: As the service is accessible on WhatsApp, it requires no separate app downloads or complex registrations, making it accessible to students of all levels, particularly those in rural or underserved areas.
Founding Inspiration
Inspired by Bharat Ratna Ch. Charan Singh’s vision of rural development, PiFy aims to bridge educational gaps by bringing advanced learning resources to students in remote areas. Supported by DRIIV, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), Government of India, and hosted at IIT Delhi, PiFy ensures a safe and reliable platform for academic growth.
Future Goals
PiFy’s founders aim to reach 100 million users by 2025, focusing on expanding its reach across India, particularly in rural regions. The platform is poised to transform AI-driven education, making quality learning accessible to all.
Availability
PiFy is available 24/7 on WhatsApp. Its pay-per-use model allows students to resolve up to 100 doubts for under Rs. 200.
Speaking about the launch, Rupesh Kumar, Co-Founder of PiFy and an IIT Delhi alumnus, said,
We created PiFy not just to answer questions but to think like a teacher—analyzing queries, breaking them down step by step, and providing clear, real-time explanations. The real challenge was building an AI that truly understands students’ academic needs.
Many existing tools fall short in accuracy, subject diversity, or accessibility, particularly for students in remote areas. By integrating AI with WhatsApp, we eliminated these barriers, ensuring that any student, anywhere, can access instant, reliable academic support without the need for extra apps or subscriptions.
