vivo just launched the V50 smartphone in the new V50 series in India, as the successor to last year’s V40. This gets a curved display, a bigger battery, faster charging and comes with IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

The vivo V50 Pro sports a 6.77-inch FHD+ 41° curved AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. The display is bright, thanks to, up to 1300 nits full screen brightness and up to 4500 nits peak brightness, and the sunlight legibility is good as well. There is Diamond Shield protection on the front, which is a vivo and Schott Xensation collaboration. vivo says that this has 50% more strength compared to the predecessor.
It has a tiny punch-hole that houses the 50-megapixel autofocus camera. The earpiece is present on the top edge, which doubles up as a secondary speaker. The phone has an in-display optical fingerprint scanner. The bottom bezels are minimal.
The V50 is powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, same as the V30 and the V50 models. It has up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and supports 5G SA/NSA with several bands. It runs Android 15 with FuntouchOS 15 on top, and the company has promised 3 Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
The phone has a power button and volume rockers on the right side. The dual SIM slots, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the speaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is present on the top, along with speaker vents. The build quality is good.
The phone has dual rear cameras that include a 50-megapixel main camera with Omnivision OV50E 1/1.55″ sensor, OIS and 50-megapixel 119° ultra-wide angle camera with Samsung JN1 sensor.
The phone has ZEISS optics and ZEISS Style Portrait options, as well as wedding portrait studio. The phone has aura light, which is now called AI Studio Light portrait, and it is now brighter.
It can record videos at 4k resolution at up to 30 fps from the front and rear cameras. It has standard and ultra stabilization, but the resolution is down to 1080p in ultra option since it crops the content. OIS does a good job in stabilization. You can adjust the aperture manually for portrait video, but this is limited to 1080p.

The phone has a matte glass back, and the Starry Night color variant uses India’s First 3D-Star Technology that changes the phone into a living, breathing canvas that interacts with its environment. This time, the phone also gets both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
The phone is just 7.39mm thick and weighs 189 grams, even though it packs a huge 6000mAh battery compared to 5500mAh in the predecessor.
Priced starting at Rs. 34,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model, the phone will be available from Amazon.in, Flipkart, vivo.com and offline stores starting from February 25th, with pre-orders starting today. Full review of the phone will be up soon.
