GoPro MAX 360 camera with 5.6K video, AI editing launched

GoPro today announced the launch of new 360-degree products, which include an updated MAX 360 camera. The MAX camera captures video at 5.6K resolution, allowing users to choose their preferred angles post-recording.

It features dual lenses for full coverage and can quickly convert footage into 4K videos. It also supports single-lens recording in 1440p, with options for Narrow, Linear, Wide, and Max SuperView digital lenses. The camera is rugged and waterproof up to 16 feet, making it suitable for tough conditions.

The GoPro MAX is designed to work with the GoPro app, where users can edit videos using tools like Object Tracking, Keyframes, and CameraFX. The Reframe feature enables selecting your field of view after shooting, which is ideal for platforms like YouTube or TikTok.

The camera comes with an Enduro battery for extended use in cold weather, has 1/4-20 mounting threads, and includes six microphones for better sound quality with less wind noise. For lifestyle enthusiasts, the MAX offers TimeWarp 360 for creative time-lapse videos and captures 360 photos at 16.6 megapixels.

GoPro has also revamped the 360 editing experience in the Quik App, introducing:

  • AI-Powered Object Tracking for automatic focus on a chosen subject.
  • Keyframing for precise view setting.
  • CameraFx for cinematic camera movements with a tap.
  • Automatic Transitions for smooth edits between clips.
  • Single Clip Edits for adjusting individual clips.
  • New Frame Grab Tool for creating photos from video stills.

For desktop users, GoPro released a Reframe plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, available through the GoPro Quik app on both iOS and Android. This plugin allows adjustments in angle, position, lens curvature, horizon level, and motion blur for both 360 and 2D media.
