Android 4.0 was launched and announced in October and the first device to feature it was Google’s own Galaxy Nexus, and in December Nexus S got an upgrade to Android 4.0. Besides these two devices there are some other devices from other manufacturers running Ice Cream Sandwich unofficially through custom ROMs, through Google’s monthly report we have come to know that 0.6% of all the devices are running Android 4.0 which actually means that around 13 million to 15 million devices are running Andriod 4.0.
Now we know that Galaxy Nexus was an instant hit, but it has not officially launched in many countries and surely is not the sole driving source here. But looking at the chart we can clearly understand that ICS has become very popular in a short period of time. This might be the O.S that everyone is looking out for and might solve the problem of fragmentation in the Android environment. But unless other manufacturers take an initiative 0.6% will remain 0.6 percent or will move a little further. The thing which I don’t understand is has the sales of Galaxy Nexus increased or the sales of Nexus S so large that it has increased the percentage of people using ICS. Well we have no official word from Google yet, but we shall see soon.
