At the Xiaomi 15 series launch event at the MWC 2025, Xiaomi also showcased a Xiaomi Modular Optical system on a custom-made Xiaomi 15 smartphone.

The custom Xiaomi 15 model has a magnetic ring on the back that lets you attach a custom camera module with a large sensor and a zoom lens. Since this attaches to the back of the phone, it doesn’t seem to need charging or connect through Bluetooth.
The system includes a large microFourThirds sensor and a fast f/1.4 lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length. This aims to enhance mobile photography by offering improved image quality and creative possibilities.
This is not a first time we are seeing the technology. Sony introduced DSC QX10 and DSC QX100 camera lenses, but they pair wirelessly with smartphones, and the images are stored in a microSD card.
The Xiaomi Modular Optical System is still in the concept stage, and the company said that when it will be launched to the public.
