GTA V Enhanced free PC update now available

Rockstar Games has released an upgraded version of Grand Theft Auto V (GTAV) for PC, accessible through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games. This upgrade introduces features previously exclusive to the current generation of consoles, alongside performance optimizations for modern PC hardware.

Existing GTAV PC owners can upgrade to the new version, titled “GTAV Enhanced,” at no cost. The update allows for the migration of Story Mode and GTA Online progress. New players purchasing GTAV will receive both the “GTAV Enhanced” and the original “GTAV Legacy” versions.

GTA Online Enhancements

The upgrade incorporates content from Hao’s Special Works (HSW), including new vehicles, Chameleon Paints, and performance modifications. Newly added vehicles include the Pegassi Weaponized Ignus, Coil Cyclone II, Karin S95, Imponte Arbiter GT, and Pfister Astron Custom. These join 20 pre-existing vehicles now compatible with HSW tuning. GTA+ members can claim a free Principe Deveste Eight through May 28th.

The update also adds ambient animal encounters and a daily Wildlife Photography Challenge. A redesigned Landing Page and an improved introductory flow, featuring the Career Builder and a GTA$4,000,000 starting bonus, are included. The Career Progress feature allows players to track progression and unlock rewards.

Both the “Enhanced” and “Legacy” versions include access to all GTA Online updates, including the newly released “Oscar Guzman Flies Again” update, which introduces new missions, aircraft, and business opportunities.

Some are reporting that Rockstar Games has removed text chat from the new version of GTA online, and the company has asked players to try to use any platform chat functionality or the game’s SMS feature as an alternative for communication with other players.

Technical Improvements

The “Enhanced” version supports ray tracing features, including ambient occlusion, global illumination, ray-traced shadows, and reflections. AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS support are included, with Frame Generation planned for future implementation. DualSense controller support with adaptive triggers is also provided.

The upgrade utilizes SSD and DirectStorage for faster loading times on compatible systems and offers enhanced support for higher resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates. Audio enhancements include Dolby Atmos support and improved fidelity for speech, cinematics, and music.

Version Availability and Compatibility

The “GTAV Legacy” version remains accessible for users whose hardware does not meet the “Enhanced” version’s requirements. Players on the “Legacy” and “Enhanced” versions will be separated in online play.

Story Mode progress uploaded during the pre-load period can be downloaded and migrated to the “Enhanced” version.

The upgrade also includes recent GTA Online player experience improvements, such as kernel-based anti-cheat protections and voice chat moderation.
