vivo X200 Ultra and X200 mini said to launch in India

vivo India is set to launch the X200 Ultra and X200 mini smartphones in the Indian market, according to a BW Businessworld report. This follows the X200 Pro’s strong sales, reinforcing vivo’s hold in India’s premium smartphone segment. The X series, known for its camera quality, benefits from a partnership with German optics firm Zeiss.

Launch Timeline and Demand

The X200 Ultra, yet to be announced globally, will debut in China in April. The report highlighted a strong chance of an India launch, driven by the X200 Pro’s success.

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, vivo executives told partners the X200 Pro had sold out in India, prompting requests for more units from manufacturing plants.

The report noted that this demand has vivo India lobbying its headquarters for the X200 Ultra release. Meanwhile, vivo skipped the X100 Ultra launch in India in 2024, despite showcasing it at a Tech Day event.

Pricing and Market Position

Pricing-wise, the X200 Pro starts at Rs. 94,999, and the X Fold 3 Pro costs Rs. 1,59,999. The report noted the X200 Ultra might fall between these, while the X200 mini could sit between the X200 (Rs. 71,999) and X200 Pro.

vivo’s first foldable in India, the X Fold 3 Pro, has also fueled its confidence in the ultra-premium segment, where Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy S and foldables dominate.

Competitive Landscape

vivo India faces growing competition from Xiaomi’s new 15 series, the report highlighted. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra, with a Leica-co-engineered camera, uses a 1-inch Sony LYT900 sensor and the same 200MP HP9 telephoto lens as vivo, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The Xiaomi 15 has a 6.36-inch display. Early tests show the Xiaomi 15 Ultra outperforming the X200 Pro, which may push vivo to launch the X200 Ultra for an edge, the report believes.

Software and Future Outlook

The report also noted vivo’s work on FunTouch OS, its Android skin. While OriginOS shines in China with AI features, it’s less suited for global markets with Google services.

vivo is blending select OriginOS features into FunTouch OS for a better user experience, the report added. vivo expects the X200 Ultra and X200 mini to strengthen its premium market position amid rising consumer demands.

These are not confirmed yet, and it’s uncertain if vivo India will convince its China headquarters to greenlight the launch, though updates may come soon as time passes.
