JioHotstar clocks 100 million subscribers

JioHotstar has announced it has surpassed 100 million subscribers, marking a significant milestone in India’s streaming landscape. The platform attributes this growth to several key factors, including its content offerings, pricing strategies, and accessibility.

When it was Disney+ Hotstar, it reported 50.1 million paid subscribers back in May 2022, so it has added 50 million more in about 3 years. JioHotstar that combines JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar was launched last month.

The platform provides a wide array of entertainment, encompassing television shows, Hollywood films, original digital content in various languages, and reality shows. The recent introduction of “Sparks,” featuring Indian creators, further diversifies its content portfolio.

Sports streaming has also played a substantial role in JioHotstar’s subscriber growth. The platform holds rights to major sporting events, including ICC tournaments, the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

It also broadcasts international sports like the Premier League and Wimbledon, alongside domestic leagues such as Pro Kabaddi and the Indian Super League (ISL). The platform has implemented features like 4K streaming, AI-powered insights, real-time statistics, and multi-angle viewing to enhance the sports streaming experience.

Beyond sports, JioHotstar has expanded its live-streaming capabilities to include events like the Coldplay Music of the Spheres concert and the Mahashivratri: The Divine Night broadcast. These events aim to provide viewers with shared cultural experiences.

JioHotstar’s accessibility has been facilitated by its pricing strategies and partnerships with telecom providers, which have contributed to its widespread adoption. The platform’s free-viewing sampling and subscription pricing models have aimed to broaden its reach.

Commenting on the milestone, Kiran Mani, CEO – Digital, JioStar, said:

We have always believed that world-class entertainment should be accessible to all, and crossing 100 million subscribers is a testament to that vision. This milestone not only underscores India’s limitless potential but also strengthens our commitment to pioneering category-first experiences at an unprecedented scale. As we continue to innovate and expand, our focus remains on shaping the future of streaming, driving accessibility, and unlocking infinite possibilities for a billion screens.
