Apple on Monday announced that its Apple Intelligence features are now available in India and other regions, adding support for new languages like localized English for India and Singapore, as well as French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.
The update arrives with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, introducing a range of tools for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users.
What’s Included in Apple Intelligence
Writing Tools: Users can rewrite, proofread, and summarize text in apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. The Rewrite feature provides different text versions and adjusts tone—professional, concise, or friendly.

- Summaries appear as paragraphs, bullet points, tables, or lists.
- The “Describe Your Change” option allows custom edits, such as adding dynamic action words to a resume or turning an invitation into a poem.
Photos App Enhancements: The Photos app now supports natural language search, letting users find content by describing it, like “Maya dancing in a red dress,” including specific video segments.
- The Clean Up tool removes unwanted objects from photos while preserving the original moment.
- The Memories feature creates movies from text descriptions, selecting photos and videos to craft a storyline with chapters and a narrative arc.
Image Playground: This tool generates unique images from text descriptions, themes, costumes, or photos of friends and family. It integrates into Messages, Freeform, Keynote, and other apps, and exists as a standalone app with Animation, Illustration, and Sketch styles.
Genmoji: Users can type descriptions to create custom emojis or use photos to make personalized Genmoji with accessories like hats or sunglasses. These work in Messages, as stickers, or in Tapback reactions.
Image Wand in Notes: In the Notes app, Image Wand converts rough sketches into polished images or generates visuals from text context by circling empty space. It offers Animation, Illustration, and Sketch styles.
Priority and Focus Features: In Mail, Priority Messages highlights urgent emails, like lunch invites or boarding passes, while summaries show key details without opening messages.
- Smart Reply suggests quick responses and addresses email questions.
- Notification summaries on the Lock Screen condense long or stacked alerts, and Priority Notifications flag time-sensitive ones.
- The Reduce Interruptions Focus mode limits notifications to urgent ones.
- Audio recording, transcription, and summaries are available in Notes and Phone, with call participants notified during recordings.
Siri Updates: Siri features a glowing edge design on iPhone, iPad, and CarPlay screens and can be placed anywhere on Mac desktops. Users can type or speak to Siri, switching modes fluidly. It handles speech stumbles, maintains context across requests, and answers thousands of questions about Apple product features, like screen recording or Wi-Fi sharing.
Visual Intelligence: On iPhone 16, 16 Pro, 15 Pro, and 16e, users activate this via Camera Control, Action button, or Control Center to identify objects, translate text, or create events from posters. It connects to Google Search or ChatGPT for more details, with users controlling third-party access.
ChatGPT Integration: Siri and Writing Tools tap into ChatGPT for complex queries or content creation, like writing or images. Users opt in, and no account is required—OpenAI doesn’t store requests or track IPs. Account holders follow OpenAI’s data policies.
Privacy Commitment
Apple emphasized that privacy underpins Apple Intelligence. Most processing occurs on-device, while complex tasks use Private Cloud Compute on Apple Silicon servers, ensuring data isn’t retained or exposed. Independent experts can inspect server code, a first in the industry. Apple called this an “extraordinary step forward for privacy in AI.”
Availability
The update is free and rolls out over-the-air for eligible devices: iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16 series, iPads with A17 Pro or M1 and later, and Macs with M1 or later. Users in India and supported regions must install iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, or macOS Sequoia 15.4.
