Ookla has published its H2 2024 Connectivity Report, analyzing India’s mobile and fixed network performance from July to December 2024. The report covers speed, consistency, coverage, and user experience across providers and cities.
Mobile Network Performance
Jio led as India’s fastest mobile network with a Speed Score of 174.89, noted Ookla. Its median download speed reached 158.63 Mbps, outpacing Airtel’s 100.67 Mbps and Vi India’s 21.60 Mbps, with an upload speed of 8.93 Mbps and latency of 62 ms. In 5G, Jio topped the charts with a Speed Score of 213.27 and a download speed of 258.54 Mbps, ahead of Airtel’s 205.1 Mbps. Jio’s 5G upload speed was 14.54 Mbps, with a latency of 55 ms.
Airtel excelled in 5G consistency, achieving 79.8% of samples meeting 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload thresholds. Jio dominated 5G availability, with 73.7% of users connected most of the time, and led coverage with a score of 65.66, followed by Airtel at 58.17. Airtel secured the best video experience at 65.73, while Jio topped gaming at 76.58, with Airtel leading 5G gaming at 80.17.

Fixed Network Results
Excitel ranked highest among fixed network providers with an Overall Connectivity Score of 74.56, said Ookla. It also led as the fastest ISP, scoring 121.44 with a download speed of 117.21 Mbps, beating ACT’s 88.13 Mbps and Airtel’s 75.11 Mbps.
Excitel’s upload speed was 110.96 Mbps, with a latency of 13 ms, and it topped consistency at 88.7% for samples exceeding 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. ACT led in video experience with a score of 77.52 and gaming at 84.12.

City Rankings
Jaipur recorded the fastest mobile download speed at 181.68 Mbps among major cities, followed by Kolkata and Ahmedabad, while Mumbai trailed at 75.75 Mbps, ahead of Pune and Chennai. Jio led in nine cities.
For fixed networks, Bengaluru topped the list at 90.2 Mbps, followed by Delhi and Chennai, with Surat slowest at 50.21 Mbps, ahead of Jaipur and Kolkata. Excitel led in four cities, ACT in two.
