OPPO is preparing for the China launch of the new Find X8 series on April 10. The series consists of the Find X8 Ultra, Find X8s, and Find X8s+, and the design has already been officially revealed. Additionally, today, the company made a major announcement about Lumo, its own image engine.
The Lumo imaging system will feature both hardware and software-level innovations to deliver stunning image outputs, specifically designed for portraits. The most advanced mobile imaging system for portraits, built with precision-engineered optics and cutting-edge computational imaging, says OPPO.
The new Find X8 series will feature the Lumo-oriented imaging system, which OPPO refers to as the Lumo Light Condensation Imaging System (translated). It combines a super light-sensitive computational optical system with focal lengths of 15mm, 23mm, 70mm, and 135mm, along with a super-sensory digital imaging engine and ProXDR.
Additionally, the company claims to have implemented a supercrystalline blue glass on top of the light sensor for the OPPO Find X8 Ultra, using advanced packaging technology. This enhancement improves the infrared cut-off rate by 81% compared to standard solutions.
The two-group floating design for the periscope setup further strengthens the camera system, offering a 30% faster focus speed and a 10cm minimum focusing distance. The Find X8 Ultra also debuts the industry’s first “Danxia” True Tone lens, featuring OPPO’s self-developed zonal color temperature perception. Unlike traditional sensor-based color correction, it accurately restores colors across different zones.
Additionally, True Color ProXDR Live feature enables real-time HDR effect previews while capturing.
OPPO’s Co-operation with Sony
Sony will play a crucial role in the evolution of OPPO’s Lumo imaging technology. Confirming this, Sony Semiconductor China CEO Nobu Kimura stated that Sony and OPPO are not just suppliers and customers, but partners in shaping the future of imaging standards and co-developing the next generation of LYTIA sensors.
The OPPO Find X8 Ultra is said to come with a new Sony LYT-900 sensor along with Danxia original color lens and Lumo image system. We should get more information when the series go live next week.
