MediaTek launched the Kompanio Ultra 910 processor for Chromebook Plus laptops, featuring Agentic AI and high performance. The company states it powers “the highest performing Chromebooks yet, while also delivering all-day battery life.”
Kompanio Ultra 910 processor
Design and Efficiency
The chip uses an all-big-core design with Cortex-X925, X4, and A720 cores, built on the Armv9.2 architecture for faster computing, security, and efficiency. It supports LPDDR5X-8533 memory, ensuring quick data access for the CPU, GPU, and NPU.
The 3nm process from TSMC, combined with large on-chip caches and MediaTek’s power management, enhances performance per watt. This allows thin, fanless Chromebook designs that run cool and quiet.
Processor Specifications
The processor includes an 8-core CPU on a 3nm process, led by an Arm Cortex-X925 clocked at up to 3.62GHz, with 16MB of combined cache. It has an 8th-generation NPU delivering up to 50 TOPS for AI tasks and an 11-core GPU with ray-tracing, supporting two 4K external displays.
Performance Comparisons
MediaTek compares it to the Core Ultra 5 125U, claiming the Ultra 910 offers up to 18% faster single-threaded performance and 50% better battery life. In multi-threaded tasks, it provides up to 40% faster CPU performance and 30% improved battery efficiency.
The NPU, optimized for Google’s Chromebook AI features, delivers up to five times the 11 TOPS of the Intel chip. The GPU achieves 40% faster peak performance, with Minecraft running 250% quicker and scoring 292 frames per second in GFXBench Manhattan 3.0, compared to 207 for the Intel chipset.
AI and Graphics Capabilities
The NPU supports AI tasks like on-device image and video generation, with up to 50 TOPS and compatibility with generative AI models, including ETHZ v6 benchmarks. It offloads workloads from the CPU and GPU for faster, power-efficient processing. The 11-core G925 GPU improves ray-tracing with opacity micromaps, adding realistic effects to games—such as vegetation, hair, and feathers—without heavy rendering.
Other features
It supports up to three 4K displays (one internal, two external via DP MST), aiding multitasking and gaming. A dedicated Hi-Fi audio DSP enhances sound quality and voice assistant responsiveness while reducing power use. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 with speeds up to 7.3Gbps and Bluetooth 6.0 with a dual BT engine.
