Google offers free AI Premium Plan to U.S. students until 2026

On Thursday, Google announced that U.S. college students can use its advanced AI tools and 2TB of cloud storage for free. Josh Woodward, vice president of Google Labs and Google Gemini, said the initiative aims to help students “study smarter” during exam season.

Offer Details and Availability

Available until June 30, 2025, this offer grants free access to the Google One AI Premium plan through spring 2026. The offer provides 2TB of storage and AI-powered tools, including:

  • Gemini Advanced: Powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, it includes Deep Research, Gemini Live (a conversational assistant), Canvas (a writing tool), and video generation with Veo 2.
  • NotebookLM Plus: Provides five times more Audio Overviews, enhanced notebooks, visual mind maps, study guides, and a Discover Sources feature.
  • Gemini in Google Workspace: Integrated into Docs for writing assistance, Sheets for data analysis, and Slides for creating presentations and images.
  • Whisk: An experimental Google Labs tool for generating and animating images and videos from text and image prompts.
  • Veo 2: Allows users to generate eight-second video clips from text prompts.

Woodward noted that the tools cover “this school year and next school year, totally free.” Students can sign up via the Google One AI Premium plan website.

Features of the Tools

Gemini Advanced: Supports exam prep, homework, and writing on mobile or desktop. Gemini Live aids idea discussions, while Canvas assists with writing tasks.

Gemini Deep Research: Produces detailed reports on complex topics, preferred 2-to-1 over competitors in Google’s testing. Reports can be converted into podcast-style audio overviews for listening between classes.

NotebookLM Plus: Analyzes uploaded syllabi or research sources, creating Audio Overviews, mind maps, or study guides with one tap. The Discover Sources feature helps find new study materials.

Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides: Enhances productivity by supporting writing in Docs, data visualization in Sheets, and presentation creation in Slides, including image generation.

Veo 2 and Whisk: Veo 2 generates detailed eight-second video clips from text, while Whisk combines text and image prompts for creative outputs, including animations.

Storage Specifications

The 2 TB storage accommodates hundreds of thousands of photos or hundreds of hours of HD video, sufficient for school projects, research, and personal media.

How to Access

U.S. college students can sign up on Google’s website by June 30, 2025, to access the AI tools and storage until spring 2026.
