Insta360 has launched Insta360 X5, its latest flagship camera, as the successor to last year’s X4. The company highlights the X5’s advancements in image quality, durability, and user-friendly AI features.
The X5 incorporates larger 1/1.28″ sensors and a Triple AI Chip system, which Insta360 states results in enhanced image quality across various resolutions, including 8K30fps 360° video. A new AI-powered low-light mode called PureVideo aims to deliver clearer footage in challenging lighting conditions.
Durability is a key aspect of the X5, featuring lenses constructed from a new, damage-resistant glass. A replaceable lens system has been implemented, allowing users to exchange damaged lenses. Additional hardware upgrades include an integrated wind guard, an extended battery life of up to three hours, and waterproofing to a depth of 49 feet (15 meters).
The X5 introduces InstaFrame Mode, which simultaneously captures a reframed flat video for immediate sharing and a full 360° video for later editing. The Insta360 app has been updated with more intuitive editing tools, and the camera is compatible with the Insta360+ cloud service for sharing and cloud-based editing.
According to Insta360, the 8K30fps 360° video benefits from 11K supersampling, aiming to minimize quality loss. The larger 1/1.28″ sensors are reported to capture significantly more light compared to the X4 model. The Triple AI Chip system, comprising a 5nm AI Chip and two Pro Imaging Chips, is designed to reduce noise for clearer images. The company claims a 140% increase in computing power.
The PureVideo mode is specifically designed to improve low-light capture through AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimization. Active HDR has been upgraded to 5.7K60fps for smoother footage in high-contrast environments. The invisible selfie stick effect, a feature of previous models, allows for third-person perspective shots.
Further improvements in the X5 include a built-in wind guard and an enhanced audio algorithm for clearer sound. The 2400mAh battery supports up to 185 minutes of recording in 5.7K using Endurance Mode and can be fast-charged to 80% in 20 minutes.
The camera features IP68 waterproofing to 49ft (15m) and a magnetic mounting system for quick accessory changes. It also retains FlowState Stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock for stable footage. New shooting options include Twist to Shoot, Voice Control 2.0, Gesture Control, and wireless remote pairing.
