Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the launch of its 5G services in Delhi starting from May 15, 2025. The company launched its 5G services in Mumbai back in March, and it expanded to Chandigarh and Patna last month.
The telecom operator said that it will roll out 5G services in all 17 priority circles, where it has acquired 5G spectrum, by August this year.
As an introductory offer, Vi is providing unlimited data to users with 5G-enabled devices on plans starting from Rs. 299.
For the Delhi-NCR deployment, Vi has collaborated with Ericsson to establish its 5G infrastructure. This infrastructure incorporates features aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and utilizing lighter hardware.
Vi has also implemented AI-powered Self-Organising Network (SON) technology to optimize network performance. The network utilizes a 5G Non-StandAlone (NSA) architecture, designed to facilitate smooth transitions between 4G and 5G networks for users.
The expansion of Vi’s 5G network across 17 circles is part of a larger capital expenditure plan totaling Rs. 55,000 crore over a three-year period.
Following Delhi-NCR, cities such as Bengaluru and Mysuru are slated for subsequent rollouts, with deployment efforts underway in other key markets within the remaining circles. In Mumbai, where Vi’s 5G services are already active, the company reports that 70% of eligible users are currently experiencing 5G connectivity, and approximately 20% of the data traffic is being carried on the 5G network.
Vi has indicated that it is building a high-capacity network intended to provide reliable and fast connectivity to address the increasing demands of digital consumption.
