Motorola Mobility and Intel to hold a press conference on September 18th

Motorola Mobility is sending out invitations to a press conferences scheduled to take place on September 18th in London. What makes the invite stand out is the Intel logo that’s located right next to Motorla Mobility’s logo. This means we can look forward to seeing an x86 based smartphone from a “traditional” handset maker. There are several Intel based smartphones out on the market, but they’re from companies like Lava. That’s not to say Lava isn’t a great company, they just don’t have the same sort of clout that Motorola does.

We don’t know what type of phone to expect on the 18th, all we know is that it’s going to run Android. We’re hoping it’ll ship with Android 4.1, but our gut tells us it’s going to have Android 4.0 on-board and that we’ll have to wait an eternity and a half to get a software update. All the Intel smartphones that are out now are running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so maybe 4.0 isn’t that bad after all!

Let’s also not forget that several other companies are going to be hosting events next month. Nokia is going to host one on the 5th where it’s widely expected that we’ll see at least two Windows Phone 8 devices. Apple is also expected to show off the next iPhone on the 12th. So many parts from the next iPhone have leaked that we pretty much know what it’ll look like. And as for Windows Phone 8, there’s a lot we’re expecting Microsoft to unveil, because what they’ve shown us thus far hasn’t been very exciting.
