Semiconductor manufacturer MediaTek has announced that the Spice Stellar Horizon (Mi-500) and the Micromax A90 would come with a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor. The Micromax A90 Superfone Pixel was originally launched in India last month for Rs. 12990, and we reviewed it recently. It had a MediaTek MT6575 single-core processor instead of a dual-core processor, as it was announced during the launch. The Spice Stellar Horizon (Mi-500) that was launched in June at Rs. 11,999 was expected to come with a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but it was delayed for several months.Now it is confirmed that it would come with a MediaTek MT6577 processor instead.
The MediaTek MT6577 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor was launched in June and has a PowerVR Series5 SGX GPU. It has 40% increase in application and browser performance compared to the single-core platform and would also offer rich multimedia experiences.
Spice Stellar Horizon (Mi-500) and the dual-core version of the Micromax A90 is expected to launch later this month. There are no details whether the price of these phones would remain the same.
