Vodafone has been appointed as the official Authentication Service Agency (ASA) and Authentication User Agency (AUA) of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). They launched the Proof of Concept (PoC) for use of Aadhaar as valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) using the Aadhaar online authentication procedure in Andhra Pradesh.
This would lets the customers get instant validation and activation of their new prepaid or postpaid connections with the Aadhaar numbers, without the need of separate KYC documentation such as Proof of Identity or Proof of Address. The bar code on the Aadhaar letter would be scanned, and after authentication the customers need to establish identity in real time with a biometric authentication. After that a authentication message would be sent from UIDAI as a proof. This saves time and also prevents customers who are providing fake documents to get access to services.
Vodafone would issue new connections in Andhra Pradesh using just the Aadhaar numbers as per the Department of Telecom’s (DoT) directive. They would start this service initially at Vodafone Stores in S.P. Road in Hyderabad and Bandar Road at Vijayawada.
