Google has announced its plans to do a bit of ‘Winter Cleaning‘ and as a part of it, the company will stop supporting Exchange ActiveSync for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar. Access will only be provided via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAC which means that legacy devices such as Symbian phones will no longer be able to connect to Google’s services.
Additionally, Windows Phone devices too are going to be adversely affected by this change. Starting January 30, 2013, consumers won’t be able to set up new devices using Google Sync however all existing Google Sync connections will continue to function for the time being. Google Sync for Nokia S60 will be discontinued on 30th January 2013 alongside SyncML contact sync service. Google Sync will continue to be supported for Google Apps for Business, Government and Education users.
