Like we witnessed earlier, with the launch of the Micromax A116 Canvas HD, the mid range smartphone segment just got way hotter in India. And the launch of the devices like Samsung Galaxy Grand and the Karbonn Smart Titanium I is a testament to that fact. These devices are perfect for the budget minded smartphone buyer, and each device offers specs and features at different price points. We had initially compared the specs of the Micromax A116 Canvas HD and the Samsung Galaxy Grand, and now, we are going to take a look at the Karbonn Smart Titanium I in comparison with the stalwart of the mid range segment in terms of specs – the Micromax A116 Canvas HD.
In case you want a better understanding of the Micromax A116 Canvas HD’s hardware, you can check out our hands on post here.
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Grand, the A116 as well as the Titanium I are at the lower end of the mid range SmartPhone segment. Before we jump to the comparison, we can take a look at what’s similar in both the devices. Here are the similarities –
- Both have a 1.2 GHz Quad core processor powering them
- Both have 4 GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and a micro SD slot that can accommodate upto 32GB of memory
- Both sport VGA front facing cameras, and sport a single LED flash on the back
- Both are Dual SIM capable phones
- Both run Android 4.1 Jellybean
So, now we come to the major differences between the two, described in this image for easy look up –
Lets discuss these differences in detail then. The display on the Canvas HD is a 720p 5 inch unit while the Karbonn Titanium sports a 4.5 inch screen with a lower qHD 960X540 screen, but the price point is to be considered, to which we’ll get to, in a while.
When it comes to the internal hardware between the two, both sport a 1.2 GHz quad core processor, but it is important to note that the SoCs used here are vastly different. The Karboon Titanium I uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play with Adreno 203 GPU while the MediaTek MT6589 on the Canvas HD has the PowerVR Series 5XT GPU. The major difference between these two GPUs though is the performance. The Adreno 203 is not capable of 1080p playback/recording while the Series 5XT manages to churn out 1080p videos with ease, that’s a point in favor of the Canvas HD in case you are looking for powerful multimedia features. Also, the sensor unit on the Canvas HD is 8 Megapixels while the Karbonn Titanium I has a 5 Megapixel sensor.
Other differences include the battery capacities, rated at 1600 mAH for the Titanium I and 2100 mAH for the Canvas HD. However, it all comes down to price. We find both these phones are capable, in terms of specs on paper, but the deciding factor will be the price. The Canvas HD will cost around Rs. 14,999/- while the Titanium I will cost around Rs. 10,990/-. So the differences in specs between the Titanium and the Canvas are largely due to the price. With almost every company in India wanting to out-innovate each other in raw specs, the end result is a plethora of powerful choices for the consumers.
