Ubuntu Developer Preview for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, 7 and 10 now available


Canonical has finally released the developer preview of Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview for phones and tablets as they promised. All you need is a computer running on Ubuntu OS and any of these Nexus devices, the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 or the Nexus 10. There are images and complete instructions for installation. You can also roll back to your old Android version using the factory Nexus images.

Canonical announced Ubuntu OS for smartphones last month, and we brought you a demo of the Ubuntu OS running on the Galaxy Nexus from the International CES 2013. Ubuntu for Tablets was announced earlier this week, and they would show off the Ubuntu OS on Tablets would at the MWC 2013 in Barcelona next week.

Ubuntu OS for phones and tablets have offers a radical user interface and offers completely new user experience. Both these use swipe gestures, additionally the Ubuntu for Tablets have unique side stage that places a phone and a tablet app on the same screen at the same time, providing true multitasking capabilities, edge magic for navigation between apps and more.

Since this is an early developer preview several features are missing including GSM data connectivity and hotspot, Speakerphone, Airplane Mode, Bluetooth and more.

Get the Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview images and full installation instructions. You also can get the factory Google Nexus images if you want to roll back. There release notes also mentions device specific issues.
