Nokia’s HERE Maps service is one of the core reasons to opt for a Lumia Windows Phone device given the excellent offline mapping service offered. Nokia has decided to take it one step forward with the addition of augmented reality features under the LiveSight branding.
Nokia Lumia phone users can now get access to more information about places and POIs by just pointing the phone camera towards them. Once the camera is pointed at the POI, the phone will pull up information using the LiveSight feature and will overlay information on nearby shops, restaurants and other interesting places. Floating icons depict the kind of location the user has pointed the camera at. Tapping the icon provides extended information including address, phone number and even directions to the POI.Nokia’s LiveSight technology has also been embedded into the latest release of FourSquare for WP and is exclusive to Lumia phones. The most interesting news however is the fact that LiveSight can work completely offline which is a major boon when travelling. The feature should be available via the latest update to the Maps application.
